Controversy Creates Cash   (11 Comments - Read Comments)
From my blog @ www.EBWrestling.blogspot.com

Looking Forward to 2010
There are many things I am looking forward to in 2010. From a non-wrestling point of view, one of the things I am most looking forward to is an end to 2009. From politics, the economy and the general malaise within the television industry, I am optimistic that the new year will be a brighter one than the one we have been struggling through for the 363 days.

From a professional wrestling perspective, I am excited to see a heightened level of energy and interest in the business. TNA has ratcheted up their game, and Spike TV has put some nitrous into the tank with a live Monday Night head to head broadcast and some serious advertising and marketing.

As expected, WWE is reacting to the competition by bringing in Bret Hart.

I am happy for Bret. Hopefully, by going back to work for Vince and the WWE, Bret will be able to put a painful and personally traumatic part of his life behind him. I have always liked Bret as a person and respected him as a professional. It was disappointing to me when I would read or hear comments that Bret would make, that reflected the bitterness he has been carrying around with him for so long. Bret has an opportunity now to write the last chapter of his book in a way that will allow fans to remember him in a more positive way.

I wish the best for Bret and wish good luck to TNA as well.

Clearly TNA is up against a Wall Street mega-corp bully with a billion dollar bank account and a Chairman that thinks only he should have any meaningful market share of the professional wrestling business (even though he's embarrassed to admit he's in the professional wrestling business). It will be an up-hill battle for TNA indeed.

The real winner though, will be the wrestling fans.

Based on the mind-numbingly stupid Raw I had the misfortune of dropping in on last week, perhaps the fact that TNA stepped up and is at least taking a swing at the bully was enough to make McMahon realize that he could not afford to take his audience for granted and continue to shove tripe down the throats of his Goliath "universe" while David was reaching for a stone.

This Monday Night...win, lose, or draw I have to give credit to the folks at TNA and Spike. They could have taken the easy path and put their best foot forward un-opposed. That would make the most sense to many people. But by at least getting into the fight, TNA is most likely going to gain the awareness and respect of a completely different audience.

And wrestling fans are not only going to have a choice this Monday night, they will most likely see a higher quality product all the way around. And for that they should thank TNA.

Its Your Choice, You Pay For It!  (8 Comments - Read Comments)
I am having a blast with twitter.

The concept of being able to share a thought instantaneously and simultaneously with (in my case 8388) people who have chosen for some odd reason to “follow” me is pretty cool. I try to keep my twitter thoughts limited to my political points of view mainly because I really don’t believe anyone really cares what I am having for breakfast, what I may be watching on television, or any of the other things that I see posted on other twitter accounts. Not that anyone really cares about my political ramblings either, but hey…its my twitter and my choice.

Choice.

Interesting word with powerful implications. This is how the dictionary defines the word: an act of selecting or making a decision when faced with two or more possibilities: the choice between good and evil.
• The right or ability to make, or possibility of making, such a selection: I had to do it, I had no choice.
• a range of possibilities from which one or more may be selected : you can have a sofa made to order in a choice of over forty fabrics.
• a course of action, thing, or person that is selected or decided upon : this CD drive is the perfect choice for your computer.

I love having choices. I get to choose where I live, how I live, what I want to do for a living, what I eat, drink, and what I tweet about. It’s all my choice and I thank God for the right.

But I also accept responsibility for my choices. If I choose to live in a house I can’t afford, its my problem not yours. If I can’t make enough money to pay my bills because I’ve chosen a line of work that I am not successful in, its my problem not yours. And if I eat too much, drink too much and choose an unhealthy lifestyle then that’s my problem and not yours. Pretty simple right?

Not really.

See the other day in order to make a point about less government and not more, I sarcastically suggested that Obama appoint a “Fat Czar” to determine how much we should all weigh and then levy additional taxes on those who fall outside the government mandated weight limits to help off-set the $147 BILLION that is spent each year treating obesity related health care issues.

My thinking was that sense the majority of Americans are overweight (myself included) that I could use the suggestion to point out to those who are blindly allowing the government to take over health care in this country and enable the government to dictate how medical care is dispensed and to whom, just how insane the current healthcare proposal really is. No one would want some government jackass weighing him or her in once a month to determine his or her tax rate right?

But save for a few who got my point, the vast majority of people who responded had some pretty ugly things to say about me. Many thought I was a bigot (not sure how that works since I too am about 25lbs overweight and would either have to slim down or pay up), evil, ignorant, and all kinds of other vile comments too numerous to list here.

Many people informed me that most fat people (yes its fat so get over it) are fat because its genetic (wrong) or that its due to other medical issues (wrong again) and I had no right to even suggest such a mean spirited and evil idea.

Then I started thinking about it. Why shouldn’t people who eat garbage food, drink gallons of Mountain Dew every week and let themselves turn into a walking talking heart attacks waiting to happen pay for their own choices?

Obesity and the health issues associated with it, cost Americans $147 BILLION every year! Why the hell should I pay more in taxes so some idiot parent can stuff their fat faces with Krispy Kremes with one hand and shove Whoppers down the throats of their fat kids with the other?

It’s a choice. Take responsibility for it and quit blaming it on your ancestors, your metabolism, Wall Street, The Rich, and George Bush. You choose to eat garbage and live on soft drinks? That’s your choice. Pay your own freight.

What started out as a sarcastic idea to stimulate thought and prove a point actually sounds like a good idea. I have even expanded on it to include anyone convicted of drug and alcohol violations. Since drug and alcohol related disease and injuries are such a big part of our healthcare budget, I propose that anyone convicted of an alcohol/drug offense be taxed an amount equal to 10% of their income for a period of 5 years. Think about the amount of money that would go to states that are desperately trying to provide healthcare to the needy! Or the funds that it would generate to educate the poor and uniformed that drinking and driving is a bad idea!

Come on! We already have “sin taxes” that tax tobacco and alcohol, lets have a “fat tax” that targets those who don’t have a valid medical/genetic cause for being fat and those that abuse drugs and alcohol.

The reason this will never happen is because too many Americans, want their choices and they want someone else to pay for them. As long parasites like Chris Dodd, Charlie Rangel, Nancy Pelosi et al continue to suggest we “tax the rich” and Obama continues to “re-allocate wealth” in the U.S., and the lemmings who follow them continue to embrace socialism, too many people will continue to make poor choices that cost taxpayers BILLIONS of dollars and drain the system of the money it needs for those who need healthcare through no fault of their own.

The other reason is because as Americans we would be forced to look in the mirror and step on a scale and take personal responsibility for one of the single largest costs in America’s healthcare “crisis”. But no one wants to do that right? Why should we when we can avoid the mirror and “tax the rich”?

I can choose to be a part of the problem or a part of the solution, so I am off to the gym.

It’s July 28th and I weigh about 218 lbs right now. I will be down to 190 by September 28th. And I don’t want anyone paying for my choices!

Monday Raw thoughts  (26 Comments - Read Comments)
Loved the hot open and re-cap of last weeks show. The effects and music was awesome and WWE’s production talents are really highlighted in the package.

Jericho and Rey was fun to watch, and both men have great matches still to come, but from a story line point of view…been there done this so many times, its hard to get into the angle.

Liked the Cena/Orton interview from a performance point of view, but putting two top performers together in an interview where they both have stakes, but allow themselves to be humiliated/insulted with no reaction from the other, prohibits any suspension of disbelief….aka: buzzkill.

Really glad to see Vickie walk away from the business to spend more time with her kids. Good for you Vickie.

Love hearing Jim Ross’s voice on at least part of RAW. Can’t imagine the show without him. I’m glad he’s on the only episode I have watched in a while.

The VKM announcement of the new GM tease was weak at best…is it me or are Vince’s ears gaining size on his head?

Rosa Mendes and Mickie James was entertaining. What ever happened to Gail Kim?

Love the UFC video game spots!

Clearly the WWE Wellness Policy is in effect! I purposefully positioned this comment out of order so as not to cast any aspersions to individual talent, but the roster looks way more “well” than they did last time I saw a Raw!

Can’t tell you how useless the Diva backstage promo was. Ughh. What ever happened to Gail Kim anyway?

Triple H’s entrance is weak, old and so tired I went to go floss my teeth when it started. He looks like a Lhasa Apso genetic experiment gone bad. Get him some new music for Gods sake, and a hair-cut. One word describes HHH character: dated.

The Fatal Fourway? Good for what it is was I suppose, and the individual performances were great, but there is something about these clusterfu*ks that just leave me bored.

The VKM revelation that he “sold RAW” was lame. When you start out a story line with a premise that is completely unbelievable, should it be a surprise that the audiences gags on it? Trump isn’t good in this role and is too forced. My guess is that Trump will bring in Ric to handle day-to-day duties on his behalf, and at least give fans something to get excited about for a while.

Enjoyed seeing Teddy Long…Hey Teddy, remember those Friday night Casa Galardo margaritas? Those were the days!

3 hours of anything is a long time.

Did I actually hear someone say “more better” in commentary? 3 hours of this is a really long time.

Golddust and Hornswaggle? Too f’n goofy for comment. And Miz, make me believe. Because right now I don’t.

CM Punk was the best interview I heard all night. He’s believable, his in ring work is great, and he’s comfortable in his character. Props on the respect for Masawa. Can’t say enough good things about him. Matt Hardy’s mic skills are marginal in this interview. Unless he was just having an off night, his interview skills reached a plateau a few years ago.
WTF is Jeff Hardy’s character supposed to be? He looks like Papa Shango after a Lap-Band procedure, and doesn’t look he could crack an egg. Enjoyed watching Edge, but the match was a bit too much of a spot fest for my liking, although I recognize some people enjoy that type of match. Did I mention that I hate 3 ways, 4 ways?

The Kidd/Hart/Carlito/Primo match was filler. Yawn.

Santino Morella is funny stuff. I usually cringe at WWE/McMahon humor, but this was fun.

The main event just bored me. 3 ways, 4 ways, 10 ways are just cheap ways to camouflage the lack of story and issues between the performers. I am the first one to defend writers/producers who are challenged to come up with fresh ideas for the same pool of talent week after week, but there is a consistent pattern in WWE story telling that just leaves me feeling flat.

I was glad to see some of the guys I’ve worked with in the past, as well as really getting a chance to get my first real look at CM Punk. I don’t think I could get myself to sit through another 3 hour show, but look forward to checking out another Raw next time my schedule (and wife) permits it.

Four Wrongs Make a Right?  (12 Comments - Read Comments)
Shortly after the presidential election, I posted a blog on my website (www.ericbischoff.com) where I touched on a number of different subjects. In one paragraph I wrote: “Barack Obama could be the Next Big Thing. I wasn’t really comfortable with his campaign platform going in to the election, but President Elect’s actions are proving to be louder than Party Candidate’s words. Louder is better. I have hope.” (12-04-08)

What a difference 108 days makes.

In that period of time Barack Obama has proven to be nothing more than an incompetent, lying empty suit. From the moment he fumbled the swearing in ceremony (perhaps subconsciously he knew he wasn’t qualified to lead this country), to his poor taste/bad judgment while making fun of special needs children and the Special Olympics last week on Jay Leno, Barack Obama is on his way to making Jimmy Carter look like the greatest president in this country’s history.

Thanks to Obama and the mind numbing stupidity of the democratically controlled band of thieves otherwise known as Congress, I believe this country is on its way to a real revolution. And not the kind that brings “hope”.

When the President of the United States chooses a confirmed tax cheat as Secretary of Treasury to manage our financial crisis, and the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking lies to the American public on something as serious as his involvement/authorship of the bill that allowed AIG spoon feed millions of taxpayers dollars to its executives, its pretty clear that we are being led by frauds dressed as public servants.

This sad state of affairs is made even more frightening when one realizes that Congress, in order to cover its collective ass and pander to public outrage, is willing to shred the Constitution by drafting a bill that would use the IRS as a weapon to target the individuals that received the money that Pelosi, Dodd et al guaranteed them in the first place.

President Obama made a mistake when he chose the wrong person in Timothy Geithner to be Secretary of the Treasury. Christopher Dodd made a mistake when he drafted language into a bill that specifically provided that AIG could take $165,000,000.00 dollars from hardworking Americans and put in the pockets of its executives, and Congress made a mistake when they force-fed it down the throats of every American that pays taxes without any checks and balances.

Now we are on the verge of witnessing democrats make an even bigger mistake with their attempt of a re-write of the Constitution by passing a bill that the Constitution prohibits. Its called a bill of attainder, which is a punishment of particular individuals, imposed not by a court of law, but by a legislative body.

And while America is justifiably pre-occupied with the financial crisis, don’t think the likes of NY(D) Senator Chuck Schumer’s attempts to strip Americans of the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, including the use the RICO act against law abiding citizens will be put on hold (http://www.nraila.org/Issues/Articles/Read.aspx?id=239&issue=007)

Democrats like Nancy Pelosi have already found a way to attempt to further undermine the Constitution and the fact that evidence proves law-abiding citizens who own a gun and are legally permitted to carry them reduces crime. Democrats are positioning to blame, not the perennially corrupt local and state governments of Mexico for the drug related crime in that country, but you guessed it-American guns. And she is doing it while she is telling Americans that enforcing U.S. Immigrations laws are Un-American!

The real threat to America isn’t Al Qaeda. It’s not the economy. It’s the power hungry Socialists that control Congress and the Empty Suit that follows, rather than leads them.
